ThioMatrix’s drug delivery technologies are mainly based on thiolated polymeric excipients or designated thiomers. Due to the immobilization of thiol groups on already well-established polymeric excipients such as polyacrylates or chitosans the following features are strongly improved:

• mucoadhesive properties

• permeation enhancing effect

• capability to provide a controlled drug release out of polymeric networks

• enzyme inhibitory properties

• in-situ gelling features

• efflux pump inhibition

  

Because of these improved properties

• the bioavailability of most non-invasively administered drugs including therapeutic peptides, peptidomimetics, nucleic acids and efflux pump substrates can be significantly improved

• the duration of drug action can be significantly prolonged

• a more rapid onset of drug action can be provided

• a higher efficacy of anticancer drugs can be achieved
